COVID 19 UPDATE 28th FEBRUARY

Following the Prime Minister’s update on 22nd February we are looking at the implications.

Tracks can in theory re-open from 29th March for training.

Luton is planning to do that.

Sandy may be 12th April and we are waiting for news on Bedford.

Local competition can also in theory restart after that time in a limited fashion.

In reality, competition is more likely to restart after 17th May.  We will be looking at options for both the Bedfordshire Open and the County Champs.

We are talking to England Athletics about clarification on all of this and will bring you further updates as details become clearer.

COVID 19 UPDATE 5th JANUARY

National lockdown has been re-imposed.

All tracks are closed, all formal club activities suspended and all competition suspended

It is not clear how long the lockdown will last but it is very likely to be mid-February at the earliest and could well be to the end of March. Given this it is likely that Cross country season will be written off as well as the indoor season.

We are still hopeful that there will be a Track and Field season if vaccination progress means that not just lockdown but wider restrictions are eased from April. We are talking to Hertfordshire about holding a joint county championships.

With government advice changing regularly and usually at about 8 hours’ notice it is almost impossible to plan anything meaningfully but we continue to plan and replan as best we can.

The road race championships we are hoping will go ahead as planned and we intend to use the same races next year, including the Sandy 10 rather than the Leighton 10. The events most likely at risk are Oakley and Sandy in March and April but their dates may move

We will offer further updates as things become clearer.

We will carry over the county badge athletes awards to next year but a list of the eligible athletes for this year will be posted on the website shortly. There are a number of athletes who represented the county in the 19/20 cross country season before the lockdown
